Obama!
Alright, the election is over. Can we please get back to the way our lives were before everyone got their panties in a wad over this election? It’s just another President. Over a long enough timeline, everyone’s approval rating drops to zero.Damn, you are probably the most pessimistic person I know.
I completely disagree. The fact that he’s African-American and more openly liberal than any other President will drastically change much about our country. Racism still exits- but now that the most powerful man in the world is black- this will make people rethink. Working in a diverse neighborhood I have (and I’m sure) will see the hope he inspires in young children struggling. I’m not okay with my 12-year-old students being called the “n word.” A 12-year-old child!! I have faith he will undue the fuck-ups that have happened over the last 8 years.
I grew up in an dense minority area, so you don’t have to tell me about what 12 year olds are exposed to, I already know. But I hope you’re right. However, from what i’ve seen, I don’t think they’ll be inspired. Inspired to vote, yes. Inspired to get a job/education, no. From what i’ve seen so far, it’s more along the lines of “Obama is going to pay for my gas and my mortgage.” Obama is going to give us more of a handout now! I’m not saying he won’t be a good President. I’m just saying that people are going to expect things from him, like they’re entitled or something. Marion Barry, instead of being a role model and helping DC’s poor residents, hooked up his friends/drug dealers/prostitutes/voters with cash, drugs, high paying city jobs, etc. Ask anyone why DC, as a city, is so messed up. They will always point out Marion Barry.
Please America, you voted him in, now make that change happen. He can’t do it on his own. You are still part of the equation!
